warcraft iii

Warcraft III

Has anyone had luck getting WarCraft III running with Sound?
It installed and will run on x64, but I get an "Unable to initialize base sound services, sound will be disabled".
It runs normal, as admin, in compatiblity mode, and as admin in compatibility mode, but I get the same error regarding sound. I have tried with built in and creative audigy card.
Sound is fine in Vista, Prey Demo, and Oblivion.
Thanks

The original version works for me. Only when applying the patch do I have problems.

Sound works after the newest update? Should Warcraft support high res'? I have an 1680x1050 monitor, but believe I used to run it in 12x10 or something. I will have to try it again...it was one of my first installs..have since changed machines/sound cards, etc. Which sound card are you using?

I have exactly the same problem, The game and expansion run fine with sound until I patched them to version 120e, then i get the error on the main menu and no sound, not sure what is causing it, no problems with the latest version in Windows XP.

I am using build 5600, and I have tried wc3banlis and winpcap with NO luck. It seems there is no easy way to fix the sound problem. I do not understand why Microsoft could not fix this little poblem in an easy download. I play Warcraft 3 on Battle.net a lot. I am about to lose my patience.

Hi,
There is a way to make the sound work in windows vista rc1. tested in warcraft 1.20e
download
wc3banlist (newest) and winpcap beta 4 (make sure u configure the banlist properly) under the wc3banlist settings choose directx hook api message type instead of GDI load warcraft (wc3banlist should also be loaded)
sound works!... don't even ask me why it works because I dont know either

First of all, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ROLLBACK OR UNINSTALL YOUR DIRECTX. IT JUST DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY. Reverting back to previous versions of DirectX, I assure you, will not solve the problem but will just mess up your Operating System.
Secondly, BEFORE RESORTING TO GIVING UP YOUR CURRENT GRAPHIC CARDS AND BUYING NEW ONES, try this possible solution first.
THE ONLY REASON WHY THE ERROR MESSAGE "..Unable to intialize DirectX..." APPEARS IN WARCRAFT IS THAT DIRECT3D ACCELERATION IS DISABLED (even if your graphics card is direct3d-capable) or IS JUST SIMPLY NOT SUPPORTED BY YOUR GRAPHICS CARD.
To know if it's disabled, type dxdiag in the run command. Go to Display tab. Check DirectDraw and Direct3d acceleration. Status of these two must be "Enabled" and is clickable. If it's not, then your Direct3d is indeed disabled, which prohibits warcraft from running.
SO THE QUESTION NOW IS, HOW DO YOU ENABLE DIRECT3D? Simple. Just go to Display Properties (from the Control Panel), then click Settings tab, and then click Advanced button. Look for the tab where "Hardware acceleration" is present (in most cases, it's in the Troubleshoot tab). Drag the indicator to Full. Click Apply and OK.
Just to be safe, restart your PC again. Run Warcraft.
